About Orchard Nursery School
We aim to provide high quality childcare in a happy, safe, secure and stimulating environment. We offer a child-centred approach where children are encouraged to develop their creativity, individuality and self-confidence in secure surroundings. We aim to encourage learning through play and provide a variety of opportunities to support their individual learning.
We believe children need to feel a sense of security, which is why we aim to provide a home from home environment. We strive to ensure that all children feel happy, relaxed and safe. We believe in the importance of parent partnership and actively promote this by newsletters, open evenings, sharing portfolios and each of the classes have activities, which are sent home throughout the term.
At Orchard Nursery School we work in accordance with the ‘The Early Years Foundation Stage’, this is a curriculum which sets the standards for care, learning and development for children. It values babies and young children and recognises individuality and their achievements. We create personal records for each child (learning stories), within which we relate the children's work, comments and achievements to the curriculum. This allows practitioners to plan activities and experiences, promoting the children's learning and development.
We operate a ‘Key Persons’ system throughout the nursery. This means that the children have their own key person (one of their teachers) and this is the person responsible for recording observations about the child and the person who knows the child really well. Your child’s key person is the best person to talk to if you have any questions regarding your child's development.
“A Key person has special responsibilities for working with a small number of children, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for and building relationships with their parents” - EYFS 2008
